Three wins on the bounce for the Wellmen

The Wellmen made it three wins on the bounce this afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Caersws at the Bartons North Wales Stadium

The visitors got the game underway and they got the first chance on 4 minutes, a corner from the right is cleared by Danny Sullivan, but the ball falls to Sam Phillips but he cant control the ball and it flies well over Shaun Pearson's crossbar.

The Wellmen's first chance of the game came on 8 minutes, Jamie Breese fired in a shot from a tight angle but the keeper Steffan Jones saved well, then moments later, Jake Roberts heads goal wards but the keeper pulls off a great point blank save to deny the striker. Holywell Town then had a good spell of pressure by Town, winning a corner, a good ball in saw Tom
Bibby have a shot blocked on the line, then the loose ball fell to Beau Cornish but his shot went inches wide.

It was the visitors who had the next chance but Dillon Browne fired over then a loose pass from the Wellmen's defence saw Joshua Astley in on goal, he shoots and Pearson gets a touch to push it against the post and the ball is then cleared to safety. A few minutes later however, the visitors took the lead. Max McLaughlin does well along the byline, got past Tom Bibby's challenge and his low cross is steered home by Joshua Astley to give the visitors the lead.

With half an hour played, a good run by Morgan Murray saw him brought down in the penalty area but the referee waved away the Wellmen's penalty appeals. The Wellmen continued to press looking for the equaliser but were unable to break down the Caersws defence. Holywell went close a few minutes later, a good ball over the top for Jake Roberts to chase, but the keeper is forced to punch clear with Roberts attacking looking for the faintest touch to steer the ball over the keeper.

The equaliser came on 37 minutes, and it was Jamie Breese who grabbed it. Jake Cooke delivered a great ball into the box and Breese pounced and heads the ball into the back of the net giving the keeper no chance, It was no more than the Wellmen deserved.

The goal lifted the Wellmen and a minute later, Town win a free kick on the edge of the box, Jake Roberts watched as his free kick from outside the area is palmed away by the keeper, then the keeper is forced to punch clear with Mike Pearson jumping ready to attack the cross. With 42 minutes on the clock, the Wellmen again win a free kick on the edge of the box. Jake Roberts steps up again to take the free kick from outside the area, and is again palmed away by Steffan Jones, but the ball this time falls to Morgan Murray who coolly slams the ball home to give Town the lead. With a minute of the half left, Jamie Jones has a chance for Caersws but it goes wide and as the sides left the pitch for the half time break, Two goals for the Wellmen in less than five minutes have turned the game around.

The second half got underway and a couple of minutes in, a good free kick into the box by Ilan ap Gareth to the far post but Tom Bibby's header is saved by the keeper. Both sides having were creating chances, Ilan ap Gareth for the Wellmen fired one wide and moments later, the visitors break but Sam Phillips shot went high over the crossbar. Both sides had plenty of possession but were unable to create any good chances, and the next best chance of the half came with 71 minutes played, Jamie Breese bursts forward, his cross is met by Jake Roberts but his fierce volley is blocked by Craig Williams close to the near post.

Caersws tried to grab an equaliser but the Wellmen's defence stood firm, and Town very nearly increased their lead with 10 minutes remaining. Morgan Murray’s through ball is controlled well by Breese, he bursts forward, controls the ball and fires goalwards, it beats the advancing keeper but comes back off the post, so close to grabbing the third goal. With just over 5 minutes to play, the Wellmen did grab the important 4th goal. Great play by Town saw a scramble in the box with Cooke and Breese both going close but their efforts were blocked, the loose ball comes out to Gareth Evans who fired home through a crowded area.

The goal turned out to be the final chance of the half and despite falling behind, the Wellmen played well to take all three points and the win moved the lads up to 2nd in the table.

As the players and coaching staff came off to a standing ovation, the biggest cheers came for Injury Therapist / First Aider Gaynor Davies who sadly will be stepping down from her role at the club to start a new adventure with her husband Tim in Bulgaria. An emotional Gaynor came off to loud applause and she will be missed by all at the club.
