Steve Roberts30 Mar - 18:15

A below par performance by the Wellmen saw them lose 2-0 at a wind swept Guilsfield.

The Wellmen travelled to Guilsfield looking to get back to winning ways after their midweek defeat to Colwyn Bay and they found themselves behind after 11 minutes as Joe Haycock fired home into the top corner past Shaun Pearson. The Wellmen’s first real chance came on 20 minutes as Jamie Breese is put through but his shot went wide of Luke Evans’ goal. Danny Sullivan went close on 30 minutes, as he was only inches away from Danny Andrews great cross, then on the stroke of half time, Reece Oliver had a shot on goal but it was blocked by the Guilsfield defender.
The sides went off for the half time interval and the Wellmen trailed to the early goal, and knew they had to be better second half to get anything out of the game.
As the second half got underway, it was a much better start by the wellmen and with only a few minutes played on the clock, a good ball across goal by Luca Hogan found Jake Cooke but he was unable to steer the ball past Evans in goal. Disaster struck for the Wellmen on 56 minutes as Guilsfield grabbed their second of the afternoon through James Smallwood.
Moment lates, Town went close as Goalkeeper Shaun Pearson’s long kick, with a little help off the strong wind, sees the goalkeeper having to tip the ball over for a corner after the bounce nearly went over his head. With 74 minutes, Town pulled one back through Jake Cooke. Ilan ap Gareth took the corner and the keeper came out off his line but didn’t challenge for the ball and Jake Cooke was there to head the ball home to give Town hope of getting something out of the game.
With 78 minutes on the clock, Chris Catherall did well on the line to clear Danny Andrews effort towards the far post, then in the last minute, Keeper Evans was again asked to tip the ball over from Andrews shot which turned out to be the last bit of action of the match.
