On Wednesday 16th July 2014, Hoylwell Town Football Club embarked on another little bit of history making with the Football Clubs first ever community visit which took place at Ysgol Licswm. Representatives from the Club were invited in to the school by Head teacher; Mrs Howarth, which coincided with a recent piece of work which pupils had undertaken around this summer’s World Cup competition.
Holywell Town Manager John Haseldin and First Team Coach Andy Lewis attended on behalf of the club and took along some of the Clubs silverware, trophies and shirts from a successful Season 2013/14. The pair addressed pupils during a specially convened end of term assembly, describing the highs of the past season whist also taking part in a question and answer session with the pupils.
The Football Club is indebted to its supporters many of whom follow the side to home and away fixtures across North and Mid Wales and saw this as an ideal opportunity to engage with their young supporters and invite them down to the Clubs Halkyn Road base when the new season kicks off on August 9th.
HTFC First Team Manager John Haseldin commented “We were delighted to be invited in to speak with the pupils and were only too happy to help out. The club has made great strides both on and off the pitch in the last 2 and a half years and I see this as a vital part of moving the club forward and further establishing Holywell Town Football Club in the heart of the community".
Speaking about the visit Ysgol Licswm Headteacher, Mrs Howarth said “It was a pleasure to have Holywell Town Football Club come into school and give a well researched, highly organised presentation for us. Many of us were not aware there was a football club in town so it was very exciting to hear how successful they have been and for the children to hear how they can get involved in the junior league. I was particularly interested in Andrew's plans to bring the club into schools to help create literacy, numeracy or PSE lessons such as writing a match report or knowing why a healthy lifestyle is important if you want to be a good footballer. We are looking forward to working with the club on these topics next term.”
Over the coming months the football club will be looking to further establish links with all of the local primary schools and are welcoming further invitations from local primary schools to attend similar sessions; all of which are offered completely free of charge to the school, with each visit individually tailored to meet the needs of the pupils.
