Holywell Town Vets 1 - 6 Deeside Dragons Vets
A new chapter in veterans’ football began as Holywell Town Vets took to the pitch for their first game, bringing together a mix of new and returning players eager to get back to enjoying the game. While some may have “changed shape” since their last outing, the quality and footballing instincts were still there—just with a little fitness to regain!
Despite the uneven pitch, the team was determined to play positive football, getting the ball down and trying to move it well. With some players still learning each other’s names, the early exchanges were promising, and Holywell created a few chances that were unlucky not to hit the back of the net.
The Dragons took the lead, but Holywell responded brilliantly, showing great character to equalise and make it 1-1. As the game wore on, changes were made, and the lack of match fitness started to show, allowing the visitors to capitalise with a few more goals. However, heads never dropped, and the team kept playing the right way, looking to get on the ball and work together.
While the final score wasn’t in Holywell’s favour, the result doesn’t tell the full story. The lads showed spirit, determination, and plenty of promise for the games ahead. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey, and with the foundations now in place, there’s plenty to build on for the next match!
