Johnny H, chats about pre season and the campaign ahead.

Hi Johnny

Q. Firstly we will start by asking if
you have been happy with your preseason has gone?

A. I think it's important for every player to have a full pre-season, but unfortunately that's almost impossible for a lot of them, with the season starting so early and players having holidays, etc which takes some managing, but every player has been first class over the last couple of months.
We planned a really tough pre-season, and they have successfully completed it.
As a result, we are now ready and prepared for the upcoming season and we can't wait to get going.

Q. You have recruited quality players in the window bringing in experience to the back line Kristian Platt and Ryan Woods and more fire power in Jake Roberts and you have given opportunities to Isaac Goundrey and Jack Baines-Hughes. The squad feels stronger would you agree?

A. It’s important to try and improve the squad season on season. We knew early which players were leaving and who we wanted to bring in.
Luckily for us our targets committed early, and we were able to get a full pre-season into those players and they have settled in really well.
Ilan and Forbesy coming back from long term injuries are like new signings and there are 3/4 from last year’s U19s we are hoping will have breakthrough seasons as well so I'm really happy with the squad going into the new season.

Q. You start the campaign against Prestatyn on Saturday. Do you feel every game will have a cup final feel?

A. I don't believe that will be the case. There will be a bit of a target on our backs due to our success last season, but we will show respect to all our opponents and ensure we are fully focused on trying to win each game.
Prestatyn will be a really difficult game. They have some good players in their squad, a few of them that have played for me at Holywell in the past. We will need to be at our best to make sure we get the result we want on Saturday.

Q. The bookmakers have put Colwyn Bay as the favourites for the title and Holywell 2nd favourites. Does that take any pressure off anyway?

A. I don't think we were favourites last year either and a couple of seasons back we were tipped to go down and finished 4th so I think what that looks like is irrelevant really.
We're just fully focused on Prestatyn, nothing else.

Johnny best of luck for the season and your title defence.

Thanks Clive
