THIS SATURDAY : Holywell Town v Newtown - Match Preview

Steve Roberts20 Feb 2014 - 22:40

Holywell Town host Newtown in the 4th Round of the Welsh Cup looking to cause an upset and hoping its fourth time lucky!

Town go into the game as the underdogs against the Welsh Premier side but will not fear their opponents and will be looking to cause an upset and progress into the next round.

The 4th Round tie has created a buzz around the town and with the match called off twice already due to a waterlogged pitch at Newtown's Latham Park, the tie was switched to Halkyn Road which give the local supporters the opportunity to watch the game on their own doorstep - but then that match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch! The weather forecast is a lot better for this weekend so the club are confident the game will go ahead on Saturday.

Town have no injury doubts and everyone is available except for John Leonard, Ryan Davies and Matty Harvey who are cup tied having played for their former clubs in an earlier round of the competition. Going straight into the side is new signing Chris Boulton who signed from Mold Alex ahead of the first game.

Manager John Haseldin sticks with his words from the previous ties which were called off saying, "The Players will not be put in a position of this game being a 'must-win', I don't want the players uptight and unable to perform because there will naturally be some nerves, that is human nature, but we want to channel it right. It is important to get the group of players we have to be as tight as possible and making the game a life or death situation won't help bring out the best in them. I don't want to take any enjoyment out of the occasion."

"The distance between the players in terms of ability isn't that big so it comes down to speed of thought and perhaps fitness. We know how tough it is going to be!".

The groundstaff at Halkyn Road have spent hours preparing the pitch this week and the pitch was playable over the past couple of days and with only the odd shower forecast before Saturday, the club are confident all the hard work will have paid dividends and the pitch will be playable.

The winners of Saturday's game will face a home tie against Porthmadog who beat Monmouth Town last Saturday after extra time. That match is scheduled to be played on Saturday 1st March.

Kick off for the big game is 2.30pm and the club urge the Town of Holywell to get behind the lads this Saturday and to provide a great atmosphere at Halkyn Road to cheer the lads on to victory!

Come on the Town!!
