The Wellmen go joint top after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Llanidloes Town at the Achieve More Training Stadium

On a wet and blustery afternoon, the Wellmen welcomed Llanidloes Town to the Achieve More Training Stadium and a win would see the Wellmen go joint top with Colwyn Bay.

The game got underway and the first chance of the afternoon fell to Dave Forbes, but his effort went inches wide, then moments later, a great run by Danny Sullivan saw him burst forward, he beat a couple of challenges and his shot was deflected for a corner. From the resulting corner, the ball is lifted into the box and Zebb Edwards rises well but his header goes over the bar.

Town won a free kick in a dangerous area, which Danny Andrews lofted into the box, but Dave Forbes was unable to get a lot of power behind his header and Luke Evans gathered easily. The visitors then got their first chance of the game, Jamie Breese firing in a shot which Keighan saved well with his feet, then moments later, the visitors took the lead.

Llanidloes burst forward, and Breese released Andrew Evans and he beat his marker and slotted the ball past Jones to give the visitors the lead. Town looked for a quick equaliser but the final ball let them down on a couple of occasions. Town then got a chance with Dave Forbes as a ball over the top for him to chase but he's unable to steer the ball past the advancing keeper. Neither side created any more chances and the half ended with the Wellmen trailing to Andrew Evans’ goal.

The second half got underway and The Wellmen had the better of the opening exchanges but were unable to test the keeper. The visitors won a free kick and the dangerous ball into the box which Kai Edwards dealt with, then moments later a fierce drive by Danny Sullivan forced the keeper to pull off a great save at his near post. The resulting corner comes to nothing.

Town were looking the more likely to score and were getting the better of the play. Danny Andrews watched as his free kick was tipped over by Evans, then a great run by Haci Ozlu saw him get to the byline, his low cross finds Morgan Murray but he is unable to control his shot and it flies over the bar. The Wellmen were piling on the pressure, and were desperately unlucky not to level the scores with an hour played. A great ball in by Myles Hart and the ball fell to Zebb Edwards and his fierce drive was blocked by the Llanidloes defender who threw himself at it, then moments later, a Sullivan header is blocked on the line by the unfortunate Dave Forbes who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Town didn't have too long to wait to grab the deserved equaliser. A great ball in by Haci Ozlu finds Dave Forbes who fires the ball home giving the keeper no chance. A few minutes later, the Wellmen took the lead, ball finding Danny Sullivan, his header beating the keeper much to the delight of the Wellmen supporters in the stands.

It was all Holywell now, and Luke Wiltshire watched as his shot smashed against the crossbar, then moments later, a goalmouth scramble saw chances fall to Danny Andrews and Dave Forbes but somehow the ball failed to hit the net.

The referee blew for full time and Town took the three points and went joint top of the league, it was a great victory, and the Wellmen now look forward to next weekend's trip to Porthmadog.
