The Wellmen travelled down the coast to Nantporth to face Bangor 1865, looking for another three points after last week’s win over Guilsfield.
The game got underway and Town were soon out of the blocks, and Brady McGilloway did well down the right and his cross found Tom Bibby but his shot flew over the bar, then Captain Danny Andrews and Ryan Edwards both forcing the keeper Bradley Farrar into a couple of good saves. Moments later, the home sides first chance of the game fell to Mason Blackwell-Jones but he fired over the bar. However, Blackwell-Jones and Bangor 1876 didn’t have to wait too long for the next chance and on 14 minutes, the visitors broke the deadlock as Corrig McGonigle fired home from 20 yards out. 7 minutes later, it was 2-0 as McGonigle picked up the loose ball after an error at the back for Town, and got the ball past Ryan Woods from a tight angle.
The Wellmen didn’t let their heads drop and kept plugging away trying to get a goal back. A few minutes after Bangor’s second goal, Town went close as Farrar was forced to palm away Danny Andrews dangerous ball to the back post as it evaded everyone and would have nesteld into the bottom corner, the loose ball was picked up by Jake Cooke and his low cross back into the danger area was cleared for a corner which came to nothing. Then Bangor was glad of Farrar again as he saved well from a Morgan Murray effort then moments later, Danny Sullivan picked up the ball and his fierce drive was only inches over the bar.
Town were rewarded for their pressure in the 37th minute as they grabbed one back through Jamie Breese. Morgan Murray with a great ball across into the box, its picked up by Breese and under the challenge of the Bangor defender and keeper, he’s able to tap the ball home to reduce the deficit.
The goal gave Town the perfect lift going into the second half, and when that got underway, the first chance fell a couple of minutes later as Beau Cornish fired in a shot which Farrar did well to save. The game was flowing freely with Town having the better of the possession but were unable to grab the equaliser, but that changed in the 68th minute as Breese grabbed his and Town’s second of the game. A good ball over the too for him to chase saw him control and chip the ball over the advancing keeper and he rounded Farrar and collected the ball and fired into an empty net to level the scores.
Town could sense another goal here and ket pressing, and went close a few minutes after Breese’s goal. Good pressure saw the Town attack the Bangor goal, and efforts by Jake Cooke, Beau Cornish and Morgan Murray were all blocked by either the Bangor keeper or the defenders. Then the home side broke and pressed forward Mason Blackwell-Jones effort flew over the bar, then another good chance goes begging as the ball across goal drifts inches past the far post for a goal kick.
In the dying minutes of the 90, sub Macauley Taylor was put through and his fierce drive was well held by Farrar then the last couple of chances in injury time fell to Bangor but they were unable to test Substitute goal keeper Shaun Pearson, as one effort flew over from a corner, then a free kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box was fired well over the bar.
The referee soon blew for full time and the Wellmen went home with a point after being 2 behind and all eyes now focus on Penrhyncoch’s visit to Holywell next Saturday
