Wellmen demolish Llandyrnog United

Steve Roberts2 Nov 2013 - 20:16

Holywell Town completed their first double of the season after beating Llandyrnog United 8-1 this afternoon.

Steve Thomas opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Paul Williams doubled the lead a few minutes later. Graham Boylan got the third on the half hour mark then Sam Jones scored from a free kick on the stroke of half time to give Town a convincing lead at the interval.

Llandyrnog United were reduced to 10 men just before the break as Goalkeeper Gareth Pope was sent off for headbutting Holywell Town's Sam Jones. (pictured)

The sending off gave Llandyrnog a bigger mountain to climb in the second half but Town had other ideas and carried on where they left off as Paul Williams grabbed his second in the 55th minute. The 6th goal came on 58 minutes as Sam Jones scored to give the keeper no chance and a couple of minutes later, Steve Thomas got his 2nd of the afternoon to make it 7-0.

Liam Jones pulled one back in the 71st minute but Town added more misery on the hosts as Graham Boylan got his 2nd of the afternoon and completed Town's scoring to make it 8-1 at the full time whistle.

It was an excellent performance by the Wellmen in testing conditions and the wind and rain made conditions difficult but Town coped well and will be full of confidence now going into next week's Welsh Cup tie against Penycae.
