The Wellmen picked up their first 3 points of the season after a 3-1 victory over Conwy Borough

TThe Wellmen welcomed Conwy Borough to the Achieve More Training Stadium looking to get back to winning ways after last week's defeat to Colwyn Bay.

The first chance of the game fell to Holywell Town, Morgan Murray, playing against his former club, whipped in a great ball, and Dave Forbes’ flick on was just a little to infront of the diving Damian Ketley. THe next chance fell to the visitors, a ball into the box found Conor Davies but his shot was easily saved by Keighan Jones. The Wellmen have a chance again shortly after as Ilan Ap Gareth gets a shot in on goal, which the keeper drops but gathers the ball before the onrushing Luke Wiltshire can get to it, Then another chance falls for Town, Ilan ap Gareth breaks free and sees his shot saved well by Rory Crowther.

The opening goal came with 22 minutes on the clock. The Wellmen break and Damian Ketley crosses to the far post and Dave Forbes rises well and his header flies into the top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. A great goal and no more than Town deserved.
Town pressed for a second, and Forbes played a great ball towards the far post but James Cairns was unable to get a good contact on his header and the ball fell wide of the post. Forbes and Cairns were linking up well, and it was this combination which nearly got Town their second goal, Forbes fed the ball through to Cairns but his shot was saved by Rory Crowther in the Borough goal.

The second half started and Forbes very nearly grabbed an instant goal, but his shot was saved well. Town didn't have to wait too long for the second goal and it came on 54 minutes. Morgan Murray, picked up the ball close to the halfway line, he ran forward, skipping past a cuple of challenges then fed the ball through to Damian Ketley, but his shot smashed against the post, then Murray picked up the rebound, controlled the ball then fired the ball into the bottom corner.

Ketley grabbed Town’s second of the game with 68 minutes played, picking up the ball on the edge of the box and fired the ball into the bottom corner to give Town a three goal cushion. Almost instantly, the visitors pulled one back. They won a corner, and from the kick, they scored direct from it as the ball seemed to evade everyone and crept in at the far post.

The goal lifted the visitors and they put the Wellmen under a bit of pressure, but Town coped well, and very nearly grabbed a 4th goal, Forbes and Cairns combining again and this time fed the ball to Tom Bibby who watched as Crowther pulled off another good save to prevent him scoring. Town were playing good football and Cairns whipped in another great ball but Ilan ap Gareth had to watch as Crowther pulled off another great save to deny him.

As the game entered the final few minutes, Town were grateful to sub Elliott Lloyd, as the visitors pressed looking to pull another goal back, the ball was lofted into the box, and Jones seemed to drop the ball and it fell to the Conwy forward, who hit the ball goalwards, and Lloyd raised a leg and was able to clear the ball off the line to prevent the goal.

The game ended soon after and the players were clapped off the field by their supporters after picking up their first league win of the season.
