Wellmen pick up three points at Llandudno

The Wellmen rounded off their festive period with a 2-0 victory at Llandudno courtesy of goals by Jake Cooke and Jamie Breese.

The Wellmen travelled to Llandudno on the back of the Boxing Day victor over Llay Welfare and the first chance of the game fell to the visitors. Morgan Murray was brought down on the edge of the box, and he got up to take the kick but his effort flew over the crossbar. With 13 minutes on the clock, Town went close again, good play by Jamie Breese saw his lay the ball off to Mark Winslade but his curling first time effort goes inches over the crossbar.
The next chance of the half again fell the Wellmen’s way, Cameron Darling, the Llandudno Keeper cleared the ball but it fell to Jake Cooke out on the right, he spots the keeper is off his line and attempts to fire past him but unfortunately for Town, the ball whizzed past the post for a goal kick. With the game entering the last 5 minutes of the half, both sides had chances in the space of a minute to break the deadlock. First chance fell the Wellmen’s way, Danny Sullivans cross found Breese but his header was inches wide of Darling’s left hand post, then a minute later, a good ball into the box found Mark Cadwallader but his header goes wide of Ryan Woods’ post. With the game in first half stoppage time, Town had the last chance of the half. The Wellmen won a free kick just outside the box, and Danny Sullivans’ effort went inches wide of the post with the keeper beaten.
The second half got underway and Town were unlucky not to take the lead on 49 minutes. Winning a free kick, Ryan Edwards’ whips it in and the ball finds Tom Bibby, who’s effort was blocked brilliantly on the goal line, then the loose ball falls to Gareth Evans but his overhead kick is saved well by Darling. The second half saw the Wellmen play a lot better and had plenty of possession but were unable to break down the Llandudno back line, the deadlock was finally broken on 70 minutes. A good move saw the Wellmen break forward and the ball is picked up by Brady McGilloway, he threads through a great ball to Jake Cook who cuts inside on the right and runs in on goal and slots the ball past the advancing Darling to give Town a deserved lead.
The home side then had a free kick and Stephens took it but it was saved well by Woods, then more good play by Llandudno saw them nearly score but their goal bound effort was cleared well by Bibby on the Wellmen’s goal line. A minute later, Town had doubled their lead. Sullivan with a great ball for Cooke saw Town’s opening goal scorer feeds that ball through to Breese, he cuts inside and then fires into the bottom corner to secure the points for the Wellmen.
The home side had a spell of good possession after Town’s second goal but were unable to test Woods, and moments later, the Referee blew for full time and Town secured their second victory over the festive period and now all eyes are focused on Denbigh Town which is played this Saturday.
