The Wellmen were crowned JD Cymru League North Champions after 4-0 victory over Llanidloes Town at the Achieve More Stadium.

With 9 changes in the starting 11 from the side who faced Flint Mountain on Monday night, John Haseldin’s side needed just a point to clinch the title and as the game got underway, the Wellmen started brightly but were unable to test the keeper Luke Evans. Town’s first real attempt came in the 12th minute, a good move saw the ball come out to Brady McGilloway, his cross finds Danny Andrews but his shot is defelcted for a corner. A great ball is whipped in towards the far post and Beau Cornish gets up to challenge for the header but he’s unable to get a good connection and the ball goes inches over. The Wellmen were playing good football but Llanidloes were defending well and Andrews was next to have a shot but his effort flew inches past the post.
Midway through the half, Ryan Edwards should have done better but saw his shot fly over the cross bar then Llanidloes first real chance of the game fell to George Clark but his shot was saved well by Pearson. Andrews whipped in another good corner and all the ball needed was a touch to hit the net but it flew through the bodies and out for a goal kick. The Wellmen took the lead in the 35th minute. A good move down the left see’s Jamie Breese head the ball to Beau Cornish, he gets to the byline and his cross is met by Myles Hart who heads he ball home.
The visitors had half a chance moments later as Elliott Jones tries his luck from distance but it went inches over the bar then as the game entered the final minute of the half, Town grabbed a second. Ryan Edwards with a great corner and Jake Cooke was there to head home to double Town’s lead.
The Wellmen were worthy of their 2 goal lead at the break and the second half started as the first ended with the Wellmen with plenty of possession. Unfortunately, the Wellmen couldn’t turn the possession into attempts on goal and the first real chance of the half came in the 57th minute and that resulted into a goal. Jamie Breese grabbing a goal against his former club after a good flick on by Ryan Edwards.
Town still looked for more goals despite the three goal cushion and Llanidloes Town were indebted to keeper Evans for keeping the score 3-0 as he pulled off a couple of great saves to deny Andrews and Breese. Wellmen went close again a minute or so later, winning a free kick in a dangerous position, Andrews watches as his free kick is destined to the top corner but Evan pulls off a remarkable save to tip the ball over for a corner which comes to nothing. With the game in injury time, Julian Williams grabbed Town’s 4th, firing home to seal the victory and as the referee blew for full time, the Wellmen were crowned champions and the party began as the Wellmen lifted the trophy in front of their supporters......what a season!!
