Wellmen up to 3rd after victory over Rhos Aelwyd

The Wellmen move to 3rd after beating Rhos Aelwyd 6-0 at Halkyn Road this afternoon.

The Wellmen got the match underway and from the off, Town tried to take control of the midfield. Jake Cooke thread the ball through early to Sam Jones but he was marginally offside then the next attack, Cooke again involved and his cross to the far post was slightly over hit and went out for a goalkick.

The visitors then had a spell of good possession but any balls into the box were dealt with by the Town defenders. Cooke again was involved in Town’s next attack, he brilliantly kicks the ball past the defender and skips past him and his low cross towards Mark Connolly is kicked out for a corner. Rhos Aelwyd then had a half chance as the ball is whipped into the box, the ball then unexpectedly hits the Rhos Aelwyd defender and the ball falls to Mike Platt who gathers to safety.

Town then win a free kick on the edge of the box, Sam Jones lofts the ball into the box, its flicked on goalwards by Danny Dobbins but is cleared by the Rhos Aelwyd defender. Luke Edwards then has a shot from ttheedge of the box saved well by Daniel Roberts in the Rhos Aelwyd. James Graham then sends in a great ball but Luke Edwards’ looping header flies over the bar.

The opening goal came on 27 minutes. Dylan Allshorn burst forward and beat his marker, he lay the ball off past the advancing goalkeeper to Sam Jones who was left to tap the ball home into an empty net. A few minutes later, Town had increased their lead, a great ball into the box see’s Sam Jones flick the ball on to the unmarked Dylan Allshorn, who controls before firing the ball home. Barely two minutes had elapsed and Town added a third.
Allshorn again involved as he beat his marker, whipped in a great cross from the byline over the keeper and Jake Cooke was on hand to head the ball home via the cross bar. Town were looking dangerous and Allshorn wasn’t too far away from adding a fourth with 40 minutes played but his rasping shot went inches wide of the post and the score remained 3-0 at the break.

The 2nd half was 5 minutes old and Town increased their lead. Sam Jones got to the byline, his low cross found Mark Connolly who tapped the ball home. Dylan Allshorn went close firing inches wide then Connolly had a spectacular overhead kick palmed away for a corner, and from the resulting corner, James Graham saw his effort saved by Roberts.
Connolly got his second of the afternoon with 70 minutes on the clock, the defender losing possession on the edge of the box, the ball was passed to Connolly who slotted the ball home. 4 minutes later it was 6-0, Sam Jones tackling the Rhos Aelwyd defender on the edge of the box and slotted the ball home past the advancing keeper.

Sub Iwan Rogers tested the keeper from a dangerous free kick on the edge of the area before Luke Edwards went close with a fierce shot. Jacob Wise got up well to head the ball goalwards from an Allshorn Free kick but the keeper saved well. Allshorn then went close, twisting and turning past his marker to fire in a shot which the keeper palmed away for a corner, and from the resulting corner, Connolly saw another overhead kick blocked by the defender. Town looked for the 7th but it never came and the lads left the field to a round of applause by their Supporters! Another three points and the result moves us up to 3rd in the table.
